A new year is a great time to reflect on the past year to see how your health has improved. If you notice there is something that you could change to help you be healthier, you might to choose to. F. Matthis Alexander said, “People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.” Making a new habit is what change is all about. Changes take some effort. One needs to evaluate where they have been, set goals, set time in their schedule, and review goals regularly. I
Personal Story
Healthful Endeavors is going through some changes. My previous focus was helping women gain knowledge for healthier lives. I am going to change my focus to helping families have healthier lives through health education and herbal instruction. This resonates with the reason I studied family health and herbalism.
Making Changes
If you want to improve your health, you may need to make changes and form some new habits.
Evaluate
Evaluate the past year by asking questions:
- What worked?
- What didn’t?
- What did you enjoy?
For example, I evaluated Healthful Endeavors and realized my focus was too broad, so I needed to make a change.
Make Goals
To make that change I needed to make a goal to review the details of my business and analyze, so I made a goal.
Goals need to be SMART:
- S- specific: I need to analyze 2018 and decide my focus for 2019.
- M- measurable: I will look at my income and expenses.
- A- attainable: I will do this step when the house is quiet.
- R- realistic: I know I have the data I need to process.
- T- timely: This will be done on my Winter Break from my day job, after family leaves.
Set an annual goal and then break them down into 6-month, 3-month, monthly, weekly, and daily goals that all feed into each other.
Schedule and Act
Once you have decided on your goals, you need to put the goals into your calendar. At the beginning of each week, choose the goals you are going to focus on. Put them in your schedule. Then act on each one. Focus on only 2-3 goals each week.
Review
An important part of accomplishing goals is review. This is an area I struggle in. This year, I am going to schedule time every weekend to review the week and evaluate with the same questions I mentioned above. Then I will set my goals for the upcoming week.
Action Step
Think about what you want to change in your life. Make a new habit to change your future!
May God bless your healthful endeavors!
