Personal Story
As I write this blog, my mom is in the emergency room. I can’t help but think of all the times she helped me when I was a child, teenager, college student, mother, and an empty nester. Even now, I know I can call her whenever I need to talk about something and have her listening ear. She has always seemed to be supermom!
National Lazy Mom’s Day
Moms are amazing! They are often more giving than we are even aware of. They accomplish more in a day than most other people. They multi-task and become efficient at their household tasks and never seem to take time for themselves.
You have probably heard the quote, “a mother’s work is never done.” Just because her work is never done, it does not mean a mother cannot pause and have a day to rest in peace and quiet.
National Lazy Mom’s Day is a day for you to remember to give your mom a break from daily tasks and give her time to relax. It is a NO CHORE DAY for her. (If you are a mom, don’t be afraid to take some time for yourself, either.)
Here are some ideas of how you can help your mom relax and be “lazy”:
- Let her take a bath, go to ger her nails done, or get a massage.
- Encourage her to go for a quiet walk, take a nap, or read a book!
While she takes a break, mom’s family can do as many of her chores as possible for her:
- Fix her meals and order Take-out for the family.
- Start at the front door and straighten the whole house, room by room.
- Clean the house.
- Do the laundry.
When Lazy Mom’s Day falls on a school day, be sure to prepare well for it the night before. Prep both breakfast and lunchboxes for everyone.
If you have kids at home and cannot get away, find ways to relax with them around you:
- Watch a movie, with your eyes closed.
- Play a game.
- Draw on plain paper.
On National Lazy Mom’s Day, moms can take a break and relax. They can recharge and get ready to shoulder the responsibilities of the school year.
Action
If you are a mom, take a break today. If you are not a mom, let a mom in your life have a break.
In case you were wondering, by the time I finished writing this blog, my mom was home, doing better, and taking a nap. She finally got some of the rest she greatly deserves!
May God bless you on your wellness journey!
Joni
PS How do you like to relax when you have some time for yourself?
