A real man is a godly man. I am blessed to have a great husband, who is also a godly man. If you want to be a godly man or know what to look for in a man to marry, you will want to read this whole article.

God makes godly men. Learning to be a godly man today involves cultivating a deep relationship with God, living a life of integrity, and being a positive influence on the lives of others in our family and the Church.

A Man after God’s Heart

King David as a man after God’s own heart, but he sinned. Big time! No one is perfect. Jesus was the only perfect man. Men make mistakes. They must get up, repent, and grow spiritually as the result of the mistakes. A godly man imitates Christ in their lifestyle. Do your best to conduct your life as God shows you to live. Our relationship with God will help each of us to become more like Christ. We want to produce good works because of knowing and loving Jesus rather than performing for him.

A Man of Integrity

Jesus always spoke the truth. He served others. He lived a humble life. You can tell a man of integrity by looking at the “fruit” in his life. Start by looking for the fruit of the Spirit- love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Also look for wisdom, prayerful, purity, loyalty, honesty, compassion, courage, boldness, generosity, gratitude, humor, diligence, teachableness, responsibility, and servanthood. These qualities are present in the character of a godly man.

A Man Who Follows Orders

Serve God. Love God first. Submit to the greater authority. Commit to a determined, joyful obedience to what God tells you to do. Spend time in the Word and in prayer to find your marching orders for the day. Carry out God’s mission.

Be a spiritual leader in your home. Love your wife and children and lead them. Really get to know them and disciple them in the ways of the Lord.

Serve the body of Christ. Love others faithfully. Commit to community and spend time with Christian brothers. Christian men encourage, inspire and motivate other Christian men.

Action Step

Today’s Godly man is a man who has decided to let God control his life by being a man after God’s own heart, a man of integrity, and a man who follows God’s orders. He does this by applying God’s Word to everyday activities, obeying God’s commands, and by serving God and His family to show the love of Christ to others through words and actions.
